Those Who Hope in the Lord
Those Who Hope in The Lord
Who are those who hope in the Lord? Is it you? Are you one of those who hope in the Lord?
“But those who HOPE in the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall rise up on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
There was a time in my life that I felt hopeless. Have you ever been there? I remember questioning my future and what I was going to do. I fell on my face and cried out to God. I needed Him like never before. As I lay in my floor hopeless and crying out to Him – He met me there. It was in those devastating, hard, almost unbearable moments that I learned to truly trust God. I discovered that Jesus was indeed my friend and I was filled with His presence. My heartbreak led me to grow into one of those who hope in the Lord.
You see, we can accept Jesus as our Savior and go through the motions of being a Christian
or we can become one of those who hope in the Lord.
What does it look like to hope in the Lord? Some translations of the Bible use the word wait in place of hope – those who wait on the Lord. We tend to think of waiting as sitting and doing nothing. We often think of hope as wishing. Neither of those apply here. This is talking about an action – not just passive resignation. To Hope, to wait is to have confident expectation that God will do all that He has promised. It means to trust – completely trust in Him. I am learning that this takes surrender – total surrender of my wants and my fears – surrendering all of me to Him. (Click to read last week's post - "All of Me".) He wants all of you. He wants you to surrender your wants and your fears to Him. He wants you to be one of those who hope in the Lord.
When we hope in the Lord, He will renew our strength. We will be stronger to withstand difficult times. We will be stronger to battle Satan and all of His temptations and lies. When we are weak, we can call on Him and He will be our strength. God gives power to those who trust Him. The eagle symbolizes this strength and power.
When we are one of those who hope in the Lord, we will be transformed. Faith brings about spiritual transformation in us. Rise up…run…walk – these describe this change in us. God will give us what we need when we need it. We will be able to rise up on wings like eagles and be strong. We will be able to run – not ahead of God – but with God, to walk with Him and do all that He calls us to do – not in our strength, but in His. We can have confidence that He will be with us.
Whenever we read Isaiah 40:31 and see the words “those who hope in the Lord”, may we be able to say, “Hey, that’s me! I am one of those.”
