Submit to God
We have the gift of making simple things complicated, don’t we? I believe we make intimacy with Jesus much more difficult than it needs to be. So if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed or just simply not sure what it is that God wants from you, let’s just cut to the chase. In James 4:7-8 he very simply states, “Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” There you go! That pretty much sums it up and tells us everything we need to know. We need to submit to God. Have we?
I am not quite sure why we sometimes struggle with the word submit. The definition of this word simply means to accept or yield to authority. Surely, by now we all realize that God has all authority! We raise our hands and praise the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He is The Ruler of All. However, He is not a tyrant who wishes to hold us captive. Oh contraire! We can freely submit our life, our thoughts, our actions, our all to Him because He is the good and loving Father who knows what is best for each of us. He sets boundaries for us to protect us and He uses all things for good in our life. Even when we walk through hard times or cannot understand what is happening, He is good and He carries us. When we submit to God, we find freedom.
When we submit our life to God, we are resisting the devil. If we are not resisting Satan, then we are not submitting to Christ. It is that simple. If we resist and submit – then Satan has to flee. But my very favorite part of all is that if we will just draw near to God, then He will draw near to us. You see, He just asks that we give up our way in exchange for living our life His way. He has given us His Son as our Savior. Jesus is our friend and our example to follow. He is everything we need. God has given us a guideline to live by and the answers to our questions in His word. He has given us the Holy Spirit as a Helper who resides within us to lead and guide us through this journey. All we need to do is submit our life to God by choosing to worship Him, obey Him and make room for Him.
What if we stopped making excuses and started making more room for Jesus in our life? What if we surrendered our way, yielded our life, stood out from the rest and decided to submit to God?
I am praying for you today.
