I Thought I Knew What I Needed to Know

“I have felt relationally lost more times than I want to admit. I grew up knowing that I was a child of God. I was raised in a loving Christian home and in a Bible teaching, Bible preaching church. I attended Sunday School, Sunday services and Wednesday night prayer meetings. I read my Bible, memorized scripture, went to church camp, and was active in our youth group. However, being popular was more important to me than being set apart. I followed the crowd more than I should have and lived as if being happy was what life was all about. As I look back, I can see that while I loved Jesus and had accepted Him as my personal Savior, I had never really gotten to know Him. I knew He was a friend to me, but I was not focused on fulfilling my part of that relationship. I thought I knew what I needed to know, but what I needed most was to know Him more. I was wandering and had yet to discover there was a better way.”  (Excerpt from Saved by Grace, Now What?)

How about you? Today, do you live as is you believe you know all that you need to know? Do you gauge how you are doing by how happy you feel? Do you let what others say and think about you determine how you are doing? Even when others think we are awesome and sweet and fun and beautiful and the life of the party, we can be lost and wandering because we are not connected to the only awesome One. This life is short. Time is wasting. Days are passing. Don’t wander around believing, I thought I knew what I needed to know.

There is more. No matter where you are in your relationship with Jesus – there is more! He is more than you know. He wants more of you. He wants you to be more of who He created you to be. He has more for you. He has more peace, more joy, more love, more intimacy than you can fathom. He is waiting on you. What will you do?

Let’s start by choosing to make the next 25 days all about Jesus. Let’s celebrate Him – His birth, His life, His death and His resurrection. Let’s make time to spend time with Him. Let’s decide it is time to grow our relationship with Him to a much deeper place, a place of true intimacy.

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”  Matthew 1:23
