Do you Believe In or Believe On Jesus?

Oh, how I wish I could have taken you to the Holy Land with me. What an amazing 10-day trip with a fabulous group of people! We saw sights and learned about things I never imagined we would be seeing. This trip, this time, was exceedingly, abundantly above all I had ever even dared to imagine it would be.

As I sit and reflect over my trip to the Holy Land I realize these 3 things:

  1. There is much I do not know.
  2. I want to know more.
  3. Of One thing, I am sure.

I have to chuckle because back in December I prayed over what the monthly themes would be for Master What Matters in 2018. As I prayed, I wrote the list out and thought it was good. As I sat down this morning I see that March is “Religion vs. Relationship”. That is not a coincidence – that is God orchestrated. On our trip to Israel, we experienced a lot of religion and learned about what others believe. We talked about what we believe as Christians and saw evidence of what we read in the Bible. As we toured and researched and learned, it became evident that what matters most is what you do with your belief in Jesus.

What do you believe about Jesus?

Do you believe in Him or do you believe on Him? Even Satan believes in Jesus. Many religions believe in Jesus. They call Him a prophet, a scholar, a great teacher and a good man. That seems strange to me. He said in John 10:30, “I and My Father are one.” If you do not believe that Jesus is who He says He is, then how does Him teaching that He and God are One, that He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6), and that He will come again make Him anything other than a liar – which means not a prophet, good teacher or godly man? So, do we believe what He says is truth?

Why is this question over who Jesus is so important? Do you think it matters whether or not Jesus is God; the way the truth and the life; and coming again? If He is not God and merely a man, then His death could not be the propitiation for our sin – or for the sin of the whole world. (1John 2:2) Right? Let’s break it down:

  • John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is indeed God.
  • He had to become a man so that He could die. As a man, He experienced what we experience and therefore, we can relate to Him and have a relationship with Him.
  • God is good and He is love and “demonstrates His love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
  • Jesus’ deity meant that His death would be sufficient to pay the penalty for all of our sins.

Whether we believe in or believe on Jesus matters greatly!

Religion will tell us that we believe in Jesus. It can even make us fool ourselves into thinking that we have a relationship with Him and can give us the illusion that we are growing. But the goal is not to grow more religious, is it? Religion is about following a set of rules and doing what we believe is expected of us.

“So how does a relationship with Jesus differ from religion? A relationship is defined as a significant connection between people and their involvement with one another. Asking Jesus into our heart opened the door to this incredible, life-changing, transformational connection. He knows you – it’s time to get to know Him.” (Saved by Grace, Now What?)

Let’s spend this month focused on our relationship with Jesus. Let’s get to know Him more, fall more in love with Him and walk with Him daily.  Today, let’s believe on these truths.

  • Jesus is God
  • He was born of a virgin
  • He lived a sinless life and became the sacrificial Lamb
  • He surrendered His life, so we could have ours
  • He rose from the grave
  • He ascended into Heaven
  • He is alive!
  • He wants to have an intimate relationship with each of us!

Are you ready to get intimate with Him?
