Season to Surrender

Season for Surrender

Man, it has been a challenging season for us. The past few weeks have been a real rollercoaster of emotions – up and down, up and down – and crazy busy on top of that. We have experienced some great highs and blessings and struggled through loss and sadness. But…we cannot complain. After all, that is what life is all about. God’s word tells us there is a season for it all.

There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:
a time to give birth and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to uproot;
a time to kill and a time to heal;
a time to tear down and a time to build;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance;
a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing;
a time to search and a time to count as lost;
a time to keep and a time to throw away;
a time to tear and a time to sew;
a time to be silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.
— Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

No matter the season, no matter what comes our way, no matter where we are today – this is a season for surrender. This is the time where we are to live out what we say we believe. This is when those who are watching closely see clearly that our desire is to fulfill God’s desire for us and are inspired to do the same.

That can only happen when we declare, “hands up!” in total surrender to our Savior. You see, we can trust the Man who came, lived and died for us. Surrender means understanding that our way is no longer valid. We are to do life His way – go where He says to go, do what He says to do and to become who He has called us to become. Life is no longer about me, but all about Him and what He would have me to do.

Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires. And do not offer any part of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness. For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law but under grace.
— Romans 6:12-14

As believers, we have died to sin and have been redeemed. We are alive from the dead - now, we are to live like it. Not surrendering our all - is sin. Whatever we hold back from God – is sin. People may not look and see that we are not surrendered in every area, but God knows. We are to yield every part of us to Him – our thoughts and our actions, our plans, our health, our desires, our tongue, our past and our future. It is all His.

God, I give you every part of me!

Today, let’s choose to be sold out. Let’s choose “hands up!”. Let’s choose surrender.
