We Long for More

As the new year dawned we started thinking about being better, doing better and achieving better things. We started making plans, plotting a new start and hoping this year would be different. We are ready to be happy, to have enough and to feel that we have finally arrived at who we are meant to become. We want to be successful. We want to be loved. We want to have everything we need. Let’s be honest… we long for more.

More. Most of my life I longed for more, but I searched for it in all the wrong places. I slowed down, scheduled time every morning to be in the Word - spending time with the Lord. It was life changing. I began to hear Him whisper moremore. I argued with Him for months because I couldn’t do anymore. I was busy. But eventually I came to understand that God wanted more of me. He wanted me to surrender more of me to Him. He was asking me to long for more of Him. So today… I am just wondering… is that what He is asking of you?

What does it look like when we long for more of Him?

David said in Psalm 63:1-11,

“God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.

So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory. My lips will glorify you because your faithful love is better than life.

So I will bless you as long as I live; at your name, I will lift up my hands. You satisfy me as with rich food; my mouth will praise you with joyful lips.

When I think of you as I lie on my bed, I meditate on you during the night watches because you are my helper; I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings. I follow close to you; your right hand holds on to me.

But those who intend to destroy my life will go into the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the power of the sword; they will become a meal for jackals.

But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by him will boast, for the mouths of liars will be shut.”

As we enter a new year, what if we became brand new. What if we surrendered our all and He transformed us into who we were created to be? What if we were to eagerly seek God? What if we thirsted for Him like someone who was thirsting to death? What if we saw His strength and His glory? What if we glorified Him with our lips and recognized that His faithful love was what we should value the most? What if we raised our hands in surrender to Him and praised His holy name? What if we were completely satisfied? What if we meditated on Him and recognized Him as our helper – not google or our best friend. What if we realized that we don’t have to fear those who seek to hurt us or gossip about us, because God will defend us. What if 2019 became the year that we came to truly understand that the ‘more’ we longed for could be ours if we just look in the right place.

We long for more.

God sent us more.
