Shift Your Thoughts

How can we complain or feel like we have lost something, when we have been given everything? Why is it so easy to whine and complain and focus on what we think we need, but do not have? Have we forgotten what God has done for us and what His grace offers to us? “What?”, you ask? Everything! He offers us everything. It is all right in front of us. His arms are extended and He is holding out to us everything we need. Yet, our arms are filled with all the wrong things, preventing us from receiving all that is ours.

Can you see it? Pause and be honest with yourself about all that God has promised. We believe the Bible to be true, so those promises must be ours. So… He waits. He waits to give us all that He has promised us until we lay down all that we struggle to carry. As long as we cling to our negativity - complaining, worrying, searching – our arms are too full to accept the gifts of His provision.

So what is it that we are denying ourselves?

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Matthew 6:33

And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. Psalm 21:1

He did not even spare his own Son but offered him up for us all. How will he not also with him grant us everything? Romans 8:32

A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. John 10:10

God has promised to provide for us all that we need. He has granted us everything – all the things – every. single. thing. We only need to shift our minds and place our focus on all that He has done. This has been on my mind recently as I have become aware that I, too, complain. (Yikes – introspection is just simply, No Fun!)

Just this morning I was listening to a podcast when I heard a quote from Joyce Meyer, “Complain and remain. Praise and be raised.” That is so true isn’t it? Complaining keeps us stuck in the mire. But when we shift our focus to who God is and all that He has done, how can we not praise Him? And as we praise Him - our thoughts are lifted, our perspective is raised and we step up out of the mire and onto higher ground. It is the higher ground, the place of abundant living where God has called us to live.

I choose abundant living. I choose contentment. I choose joy. What about you? Shift your thoughts and see all that God has waiting for you.
