Preparing Him Room
Preparing Him Room
“Joy to the world, the Lord has come. Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare Him room and Heaven and nature sing and Heaven and nature sing.”
The tree is up, the presents are wrapped, and the groceries have been bought. Our mind is racing and going over every little detail. We want the holidays to be merry and bright. We want our day to be filled with fellowship and laughter. We cannot wait to eat the yummy foods and savor a slice of our favorite cake. We have a lot of expectations that we secretly hope are all met so that this Christmas can be good. We are longing for a good day.
Yet, here we are as believers – focusing too much on all the details – and not enough on what this day really means for us. So today – before the chaos starts, will you grab a cup of coffee and sit with me? Can we push the pause button on our busyness and prepare Him room? After all, Jesus is the reason we celebrate. Let’s prepare Him room in our heart and make this time all about Him.
“Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
Why did Jesus come? We were in a hopeless situation – separated from God because of our sin – doomed to hell. We needed a Rescuer. So, Love came down that Christmas morning. Because of God’s great love for us, the Hope of the World came to save us. He came to offer us reconciliation to God and the gift of eternal life with Him. What great love! If not for Jesus – we would be hopeless and lost. But because of Jesus, we have joy, we have peace, and we have love. Can we prepare Him a little more room in our heart? Can we offer Him a little bit more of our undying love?
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15
On that Christmas morning so long ago, God gave us an indescribable gift! As each Christmas present is opened this year, may we remember what we have been given. Our gifts can never compare to God’s sacrifice for us. As the twinkling lights catch our eye, may we rejoice that the Light of the World has come to us! As we sing our favorite Christmas carols, may we express our joy for what He has done – humbling Himself for our sakes. When you notice the star on the tree – remember it above the manger where Jesus was born. Jesus – at His name every knee will bow and every tongue confess He is Lord! Because of the cradle, there is a cross. Can our heart prepare Him room?
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.” Matthew 1:10
What is filling our heart this Christmas season – grief, disappointment, fear, uncertainty? Instead of letting that consume us, let’s scoot it over and prepare room for our Savior. This Christmas let’s make Him the only reason for the season! Let’s give gifts because of the great gift we have received. Let’s love others because of the great love we have received. Let’s be joyful – filled with exceedingly great joy no matter our circumstances - because our Rescuer came and what has been does not compare to what is to come! Let’s prepare our heart to worship the King of Kings, the Prince of Peace, our Master, our Savior, our Lord, Immanuel!
“Joy to the world, the Lord has come. Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare Him room and Heaven and nature sing and Heaven and nature sing.”
Merry Christmas, Friends! Let’s Celebrate our King!!
