Verse Mapping

Hi sweet friends. Are you ready to get a little creative and go a little deeper as you study God’s word? Have you heard of Verse Mapping? I thought I would share a little about it – just in case you want to give it a try. Let me know your thoughts.

Verse Mapping - What is it?

Verse Mapping is simply a method of Bible Study. It offers a way to dive deep into scripture and gain a clearer understanding of God’s word. Let’s face it, sometimes understanding scripture can be a bit daunting. Verse mapping is researching the words used in a scripture, clarifying the meaning of the scripture and allowing you to experience a deeper understanding of the character of God. It helps you gain insight by understanding the historical context, the translation, and the theological framework of a verse. There is no right or wrong way to do it. It is simply studying God’s word in depth.

You might consider verse mapping your favorite verse in the Bible, verses you are currently studying, a verse you don’t understand or a topic you are interested in. You might even consider using this method to study the promises of God. Regardless of where you begin, I think you will find this to be a valuable tool and one you will continue to use on your spiritual journey.

As a member of the Bible Gateway Blogger Grid, I received the books listed below for free in exchange for my honest review on each of them. Let’s take a look at a Verse Mapping Bible, a Verse Mapping Bible for Girls and also a Verse Mapping Bible Study Journal. I hope you find my thoughts helpful as you consider this study method for yourself. Note: these resources are not necessary to do verse mapping, but you may find them beneficial as you do.

The NIV Verse Mapping Bible

This Bible has a cloth over board cover that resembles a gray denim look. Inside you will find instructions by author and Bible teacher, Kristy Cambron, on how to get started verse mapping, along with 5 steps to help you move through this study method. It contains 350 partially completed verse maps with pre-selected verses in multiple Bible translations and with word studies and 70 blank verse maps. There is also margin on most pages for notes or Bible journaling. You get all of this AND it is printed in comfort print!

I love the look and feel of this Bible. The outside has gold lettering and gray and metallic gold are one of my favorite color combinations, making this Bible very attractive. The inside is accented with a teal font and text boxes.  As you complete the verse maps, this Bible will become an invaluable resource for all of your future studies. The idea that these verse maps will stay in the Bible and next to the text is of great benefit. Anytime you look up those scriptures, you will be able to review and even add to your notes.

As an avid fan of a good study Bible, I do miss the notes, articles, cross-references and commentaries found in other Bibles. I cannot help but think how helpful it would be to have that included in this Verse Mapping Bible. As you use your verse mapping Bible, having your study Bible, your favorite Bible translations, and a computer close by will be of great help. Oh and don’t forget your colored pens.

I suspect this Bible will become one of the favorites on my shelf. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to gain a greater understanding of God’s word and get to know Him in a deeper way. NIV Verse Mapping Bible for Girls

See the review of the Adult Verse Mapping Bible above. This Bible appears to be exactly the same as the adult Bible is inside. The only difference I can find is the hard book-like cover with a multi-color pattern. This is disappointing to me. As a grandmother of 7 granddaughters, I would love to see more age appropriate questions, as well as explanations. In the instructions, it says to “look up the Hebrew or Greek meanings for the underlined words and record them.” Most 8 year olds would not know where to begin to find Hebrew or Greek meanings and might even be confused by the word “record”.

This is a great Bible for a young girl if an adult is going to work through the verse maps alongside them. Left on their own, I am not sure they would understand how to use this Bible.  However, an older girl, who already has an aptitude for studying God’s word, would enjoy this Bible. Verse Mapping Bible Study Journal

Award winning author, Kristy Cambron, shares her instructions for this new way to study God’s word. This journal is filled with 55 blank verse maps, study prompts and a detailed example. In the back of the journal, you will find a list of Resources to help you study – different Bibles, dictionary and concordances. She has also listed websites you might find helpful, history books and maps.

She included some Verse Mapping Study Plans. One is on the book of Luke and another on the book of Acts. She explains that your mapping journey is meant to continue from book to book, theme to theme and year to year. If you find that Verse Mapping is a method of study you enjoy, you may come back for more of these journals.

Personally, I love this journal and all of the explanation that is included to help you get started. It is a great companion to use alongside your favorite Bible(s). Get ready to dive into God’s word and gain clarity like never before. Grab yours today…

Nothing compares to getting into God’s word. When you do, it begins to get into you. If it’s not something you are doing on a consistent basis, can I encourage you to do so? It is a difference maker for sure. Grab your favorite pens and markers, your Bible and your computer and dive in! There is so much waiting for you to discover.

Much love to you all!
