Lead Me as I Lead Others

 

Whether we want to admit it and accept it or not, being a Christ follower means we should be leading others to Him. It’s not easy and it’s not always comfortable. But nevertheless, it is what we are instructed to do.  

 

It should be our daily cry! Help! Lord, lead me as I lead others to You. Whether they are coming to us for advice, guidance, encouragement, correction, support, or salvation – our goal is to point them to Jesus.

 

It is so easy to say, yet not so easy to do. Have you ever thought about it? What is your response when others come to you? Maybe consider the last 2 or 3 times it happened. What did you say? What did you do? When they walked away, where were they headed?

 

Maybe our intentions are good. We jump in and start trying to be helpful to them. We make suggestions and offer advice based on our experiences. But is that what God has asked us to do?

 

As Daughters of the King, we should live out what we say we believe. We are quick to say that Jesus is the answer, yet we often respond with our opinions, our gut feelings, and our best guess at what the answer might be for those we are leading. It is hard for us to acknowledge that we don’t have the answer. We don’t know what they should do in this difficult situation. We aren’t sure how they should handle their problem. But… we do know The Answer and He is the only One who can truly help them in their time of trouble.

We always know we are on the right path when we find the answers in scripture.

 

Why should I lead others to Jesus?

  • Because He is The Answer they need for salvation, for sanctification, and for sustenance. “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” John 14:6

     

  • Because we all fall prey to lies so easily and we need to know the Truth. Jesus is the Truth. The more we know Him, the more freedom we will experience. “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32

     

  • Because they need to know they are not on their own. “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

     

  • Because they need to know they can move forward.  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

     

  • Because they need to know somehow or someway, God will use this for good. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

 

How do I lead others to Jesus?

  • Tell your faith story. Testify of His goodness. Talk about what He has taught you during your struggles, pain, and trials. Remember to not talk about you – talk about Him and what He has shown you. “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light: and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.” Matthew 10:27

     

  • Show them love as you listen with empathy. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

     

  • Pray with them and for them – out loud. It is easy to say I will pray for you. But there is no better way than to pray over their situation with them. Let God to speak through you and directly into their heart. “…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:17b

     

  • Glorify God in how you live your everyday life. Live so others can see Jesus in you. How you do that is to surrender all of you to Him - your identity, your finances, your career, your parenting, your health, your emotions, your relationships, all of it. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.” Matthew 5:18

     

  • Be ready to lead them into salvation. “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” 1 Peter 3:15 (Put the scriptures for the Roman’s Road in your phone notes. Lead them through each scripture and ask what is that saying to you?”

 

I pray today’s post is helpful to you. I pray it encourages you to lean in and let Jesus lead you as you lead others to Him. It is not easy, but nothing matters more than this. Let’s commit today that we will be available and willing to do the work God is calling us to do.
