It's Time to Embrace our Freedom
It’s Time to Embrace our Freedom
Today is the day after Independence Day. We have just gathered with friends and family, cooked out on our grills and made patriotic posts on social media to commemorate the birth of our great nation. Our freedom is not free. Many have paid a price for this freedom that we so easily take for granted. It has required sacrifice and great suffering to preserve our liberty. We know this in our mind, we believe it in our heart, but we don’t experience it the way we should. We should be thankful for everyday opportunities, grateful to live in this great country and filled with love for our fellow Americans. Maybe it’s time to embrace our freedom.
As much as we love our freedom as Americans, there is a freedom far greater. While the sacrifice of our soldiers protects our rights as citizens, there is a bloodshed that offers us deliverance from much more. As we celebrate our great country, there is a something – someone – worthy of all our praise and worship. While being an American is a privilege we should never take for granted, there is a title that offers us liberty beyond our understanding. As devastating as the effects of war can be, there is a battle waging and we are sometimes oblivious. Maybe it’s time to embrace our freedom, express our gratitude, bust out of bondage and live our life as a celebration of our liberation.
I am no longer a slave.
I have been bought with a price.
I am a child of God.
No need for bondage, freedom is mine!
Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32
What does it mean the truth will set you free? What is the truth? Well, in John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
To know Jesus is to be FREE, yes, FREE indeed! As sons and daughters of God, we can live in complete and total freedom in Him. But, we have an adversary who will do all he can to rob us of this freedom. He wants to steal, kill and destroy this freedom of ours and keep us in bondage to fear. He wants us to be a victim of our circumstances. But, that is not who we are. If we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, we are the victor. We have read the back of the book and we already know that we win! We are victorious.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1
Accepting Jesus as our Savior is just the beginning of our freedom. As we spend time with Him and get to know Him more and more and more and more, our freedom expands, it explodes. We can experience deliverance. The crazy thing is that it does not take fighting and striving to attain. No, it only takes surrender. As we surrender our way, our thoughts, our fears – our all - to Him we come to know Jesus more, we learn to accept who we are in Him, and we begin to walk in freedom to become who He has created us to be. Satan will not make it easy, but intimacy with Jesus and the freedom it brings is worth it.
“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.” I John 5:20
It’s time to embrace our freedom. We are free. Yes! Free indeed!
A note from Pam:
I want to know Jesus more, to have a more intimate relationship with Him. Do you? Let's do this together. Let's encourage one another. Let's talk about it more. If you don't already have "Saved by Grace, Now What?", grab a copy so you can read it. We are going to talk about it more here in this blog and there is a Bible study coming soon. I love seeking to know Jesus more alongside you.
