He Restores My Soul
He Restores My Soul
I sat in a circle with women I barely knew. We had walked different paths and had different life circumstances. We had all made mistakes in our lives, but theirs had led them to this place. I would get up and walk out, but they would remain here in this place until their sentence had been served.
We would begin our time together by studying Psalm 23. I asked if someone would like to read it aloud. As I looked around the circle of broken and hardened women who had endured things I could never imagine, one raised her head and volunteered. I never expected her to offer to read. She had shown up for bible study with her hat cocked sideways, spun the chair around to straddle it backwards and made it known I was to use her nickname.
She slowly began to read, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul…” She stopped. Again, she said, “He restores my soul.” She looked up from her bible and whispered, “That is what I need – right there – I need that.”
How about you? Do you need that?
We all struggle, fear, worry, fret, overthink, jump to assumptions, make bad decisions, step on the wrong path, get caught up in gossip, allow the wrong people to influence us, focus on our pain, question, doubt, and put our faith in people. We shouldn’t; but we do. If we are not doing it today, we have certainly done it at some point in our life. We have all found ourselves in a place where we need a little restoration.
“That is what I need – right there – I need that.”
Praise God! For those of us who know Jesus, we have hope. We can and will be restored. All we need to do is look up! No matter where we have landed, no matter what we have endured, no matter how far off the path we have traveled - He is good and He will restore our soul; but, that is not all…
God is so good that He uses everything we go through. He will use our struggles, our worries and our fears, our bad decisions, our wayward steps, our pain and our disappointments. He will use it all for our good (Romans 8:28). All we need to do is look up! He is the God of all grace. There is no need for shame, no reason to be stuck and no need to be held prisoner to our past.
He will restore us, mending our brokenness making us whole. But that is not all.
He will restore us and He will establish us making our way stable even if everything around us feels unstable. But that is not all.
He will restore us, establish us and He will strengthen us giving us the ability to do what He is calling us to do. But that is not all.
He will restore us, establish us, strengthen us and He will support us creating within us a firm foundation that will withstand the attacks by our enemy.
We all need our good, good Father to restore our soul. Let’s run to Him today and watch Him do just that and so much more.
A Word From Pam:
Today is a good day to be quiet and allow God to do a little restoration work.
