Got Hope
Got Hope?
Anybody struggling? It's been a tough year. The past 12 months have NOT been my favorite for a lot of reasons. We have suffered heartbreaking losses, faced challenges we did not anticipate, and had big trips and big plans cancelled or postponed. But... we have also had some very sweet moments, laughed at ourselves and received some exciting news. I have a choice. I can focus on all that went wrong or I can choose to focus on all that is good. Where are you choosing to place your focus?
If I am not careful, I can start thinking that my life is all about me and how things are going from my perspective. But then I am reminded that my ways are not like His ways and my thoughts are not like His thoughts. I am not THE authority on what is best for me and I am certainly not in control. Therefore, I am so thankful that I know the One who is!
I remember a different time when I was struggling. It felt as if my "good" life was over and I had no where to turn... except to God. That terrible time - the hardest of my life - is when I came to understand that my only hope was in the Lord. He was what I needed and He was enough to carry me through. He gave me the verse Isaiah 40:31...
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
This translation says hope, but others use the words wait & trust. But isn't it all the same? When we rely on or have confident expectation (active hope) on the Lord, everything changes. Our perspective shifts, we tap into His strength, pressure is replaced with peace and we take a step or maybe a few steps closer to God.
Every time I read this verse, I feel as if God is saying, "Pam, place your hope in Me and Me alone. I've got you. I will renew you and give you My strength. I will draw you closer to Me. My transforming power is yours. It will help you and grow you so you can do all I ask you to do. You can do this. All you need to do is place your hope in Me - I'll do the rest." Of course this is just my own paraphrase. What do you feel God is saying to you when you read this verse?
HOPE - you can have hope whether you know it or not. Hope has a name and His name is Jesus. If you have invited Him into your heart, you have all the hope you will ever need. Knowing that matters and makes every day a good day!!!
