Purify My Heart

We are in the middle of a pandemic. Things have slowed down and we are no longer filling every second with appointments, meetings and gatherings. We have some margin in our lives right now. What will you take with you when we leave this time?

There are posts all over social media talking about using this time to get healthy, learn a new skill, do a little self care, start a new hobby, or to start a side hustle. Nothing wrong with any of those things, but can I tell you about something that trumps them all? Can we talk about what matters more than anything else?

What if this was the time that we learned to build our life on the firm foundation of God’s word? What if we came to understand it more than ever before? What if as we got into it, it began to get into us and transform us. What if we cried out and asked God to purify our hearts and rid it of all the impurities - the fear, the confusion, the doubts, and everything that leads us astray?

What if when this pandemic was over - you were renewed, restored and transformed by the Creator of us all? What if your trust in Him became so strong that it could not be shaken? What if you built your life on His love and taught your children to do the same?

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

— Psalm 51:10

It starts with confession - simply acknowledging that we have gone astray. (Side note: Thinking we don’t need God to draw the impurities out of our heart is a great indicator of pride. We ALL need to cry out to God today,) We have put other things before Him and allowed our foundation to crumble. We can pray the words that David prayed (Psalm 51:10) and ask God to do what only He can do. Cry out to Him and ask Him to purify your heart, cleanse you and restore a steadfast spirit within you!

Nothing matters more.
