How Do I Surrender Everything to God?

Are you struggling or are you surrendering? Have you surrendered some things, while you struggle with others? Don’t be too quick to answer. If there are areas in our life where we are struggling, then we have not surrendered it to God.

Ugh. This is what God is currently teaching me. There are some areas of my life where I have struggled the past few years. God is revealing to me that the reason I have struggled is because I have not given them to Him. I have thought about it, even committed to release it, only to grab ahold and pull it back close to my chest.

Just like the song says, we are to freely give Him everything. We were never meant to carry our own baggage. Because of our love for Jesus, we can be obedient and trust Him with it, while we rest in His sweet presence.

Sing with me – all to Jesus, I surrender, all to Him I freely give. I will ever love and trust Him and in His presence daily live. I surrender all. I surrender all.

How do I surrender everything to God?

In Matthew 16:24 Jesus is speaking and He says,

“If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross, and follow Me.”

The question is, how do I surrender everything to God? The answer is, deny yourself.

You know, there are many areas of my life where I deny my worldly desires. But can I say that I deny them in every area of my life? God is showing me that while I seek what is comfortable and familiar, what makes me feel good and what makes me happy – it is not always good for me. God is not concerned with granting my worldly desires, He is offering what is spiritually beneficial – what is best. And once I make the exchange – I have to admit – He was right! I enjoy His best far more than what I thought I wanted or needed!

Think through your health, your relationships, your finances, your emotions, your identity, your spiritual disciplines or lack thereof, and your spiritual maturity – or sanctification. Do you deny yourself? Have you surrendered it all to Jesus?

If you are reading this, then this is for YOU. Start today. Ask Him to show you the areas where you are the Lord. Make the exchange. Knock yourself off the throne and place Jesus there. It will amaze you what will take place in your life.
