Where Do You Get that Living Water

Where Do you Get that Living Water?

Do you remember the Bible story about the woman at the well? Jesus, a Jew, sat and talked with her, a Samaritan. She was curious why he was asking her for a drink of water when the Jews hated the Samaritans. It got even more confusing to her when Jesus mentioned she should be asking Him for living water. In John 4:11, she asked

Where do you get that living water?

You know the story. As they continued to talk it became clear that not only was Jesus talking to a Samaritan, but He knew all about her. He knew she had been married 5 times and was now living with her next boyfriend. She had a past she was trying to keep hidden, but He knew. He knew and yet He was inviting her to partake of the only water that would ever truly satisfy.

Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. Vs. 13

Maybe it is our time to sit and humbly ask Jesus, “Where do you get that living water?”. We think we got it when we invited Jesus into our heart and we did. But is that fountain flowing or have we capped the tap?

You see – we focus on our past and believe the lie that it exempts us from real relationship with Jesus. But here we see Jesus sitting and talking with someone who clearly had a broken past.

We make worldly and natural things more important than Jesus. We give more of our attention to drinking half our body weight in water than we do experiencing the Living Water.

Are you thirsty? Are you concerned with your physical needs or your spiritual needs? The water that Jesus speaks of does not just quench a physical thirst, but our spiritual thirst. It provides a spiritual washing and refreshment that, just like the woman at the well, we desperately need. Today, let’s ask the Living Water to come and refresh us.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living waters. John 7:38

When we invited Jesus into our heart, we received this living water – the Holy Spirit. He is within every believer and quenches every spiritual thirst, as long as we accept what He has to offer and we choose to follow His leading – moment by moment. When we do, out of our heart will flow His goodness, His mercy and His grace. Not only will we become satisfied, but we will become a river so that others may drink and be satisfied.
