Do You Love Me?

This was taken beside the Sea of Galilee near Tiberius where the resurrected Savior appeared to the disciples. This was the 3rd time He had appeared.

After fishing, when Jesus told them to “cast your nets on the right side of the boat”, they returned to this spot (where I am sitting) for breakfast. Let’s ease drop on the conversation between Jesus and Peter that followed...

Peter denied Jesus 3 times. In John 21:15-17, Jesus, who was having breakfast with His disciples soon after His resurrection, asked Peter 3 times - “Do you love me?” Peter declared His love for Jesus. Each time Jesus commissioned Peter to “feed My sheep”. While each command is often translated the same way, they are a little different. The first implies to tend or care for others. The second is a supervisory capacity as a pastor. The third time refers to supplying spiritual food and inspiring spiritual growth that can only come from getting into God’s word.

Is Jesus asking us that question, “Do you love me?”

If we answered yes like Peter did, what can we take away from this message? We, as believers, have a responsibility to love Jesus and walk in obedience to God’s word. We are to love others, care for them, and share Jesus with them. We cannot give away something we do not have. But… when we love the Lord with all of our heart, soul and mind, get into His word daily and experience true intimacy with Him - there will be an overflow.

How can we “feed His sheep” today?
