Our Obedience Leads us into More

We want more. We aren’t sure what that means, but we know there must be more to our life than marking things off our To Do list. We feel overwhelmed, defeated and alone. So, we quietly long for more hoping that one day we discover what that more is.

I wish we were sitting face to face having coffee and I could assure you that there is more. God loves you and is not asking you to do more or add more to your overflowing plate. He is reaching out His hand and inviting you to know Him more, love Him more, surrender more of you to Him and to experience more of what He has for you.

How does that sound to you? Ready?

Well, if you have been following along, you know this is our 4th post in a series about the more God wants for you and how we step into it. We are working through the steps God is asking us to take. If you haven’t read them, be sure to check out these posts when you can –

What is the “More” God Wants for You?

Want More, Seek Him First.

We Step into More when we Place our Trust in Him.

Today, let’s chat about how our obedience - to God and His word - leads us into more with Him.

But first, let’s do a little introspection. I know, it is not fun – but necessary. Are we obedient to God and His word? Or are we living according to our own opinions, plans and ideas? It is easy to make decisions based on our knowledge, circumstances, and experiences. But, what if we run every decision through the filter of God’s word? What if we seek His direction? What if we say yes to everything He asks us to do?

See, often what hangs us up is our desire for a plan. We want to know, “if I do this, what will be the outcome?” But when it comes to following God’s plan for our life, we don’t have the answers we desire. We want to know where we are headed. We want to know where we will be in five years. We want to know what is around the corner.

While we may not have those answers, we have The Answer. God is the Ultimate Answer. If we are obedient to Him - we are headed to eternity with our Lord, in five years we will have developed a deeper intimacy with Him, and around the corner is His peace, fulfillment of His promises and His provision – regardless of our temporary circumstances.

Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you. Jeremiah 7:23

If you love Me, keep My commandments. John 14:15

As the Father loves Me, I also have loved you, abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. John 15:9-10

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

Surrendering and becoming obedient to God sets us free to become who we were created to be and reflect the image of God. It is our love for Him that compels us to walk in obedience to Him.

As Christ followers, if we are experience the more and live the abundant life, we are to

love God with all of our heart, soul and mind

love others as He loves

offer grace because we have received grace

sacrifice our selfish desires

follow Jesus

tell others about Him

know what the Word says and walk in obedience to it

When we choose obedience, we stop striving and simply surrender. We surrender to the authority of God. We surrender our plans to His plan. We surrender our comfort zone to the Great Comforter. We surrender everything we cling to and instead cling only unto Him. And as we surrender little by little, He draws us into more and more with Him. And that is what the abundant life is all about!

 Note from Pam:

Thank you for reading this blog post. I remember when God began to whisper the word, MORE, to me. I didn’t hear it audibly but it was a constant in my mind. I argued because I was busy and could not do more than I was doing. Then He began to reveal that He was not asking me to add more to my to do list, He was inviting me into more with Him. Today I am praying that you say Yes and step into more with Him.
