Good God - Good Life
If you think you have missed out on the good life, let me encourage you. You haven’t blown it. There is no mistake or failure that denies you from living it. But, there is something that can make it impossible for you to experience it. Oh, it might look to everyone around you that you are living the good life, but you know you are not. You know you are struggling, doubting, feeling like you are being tossed to and fro. So, what is it that is stopping you from living the good life?
You see, we don’t mean to be, but we are influenced by the world. If we are not diligently studying God’s word and staying in close communion with Him, we start to believe what the world believes. When things go our way, like the world we declare, “God is good!” We have a wreck, but we aren’t hurt - “God is good!” Our finances are tight, but we pay our bills on time – “God is good!” Our loved one is in the hospital ill, but they make a miraculous recovery – “God is good!”
But what about when we do suffer an injury and our car is totaled? What if we cannot pay our bills and, like our bills, our stress is mounting? What if we lose our loved one even though we are praying tirelessly for her? In the difficult moments of our life, do we wonder - where are you God, why are you allowing this, or what did I do to deserve this? We hear the world question, How can a good God let bad things happen? Then we begin to question it as well. But we know better, don’t we?
God’s ways are not our ways. He sees things from a spiritual perspective. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. And then there is the matter of sin. Sin entered this world and brought along with it destruction, trials and difficulties. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
If you want to live the good life, you must know – really know – that regardless of the suffering we experience, God is good.
You see, hard times will come, we will struggle, and we will experience loss. But, even so… God is good. Even when we don’t understand - His way in best, He is always faithful, and as daughters of the King - His promises our ours.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and give you help, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:2-3
“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” 2 Corinthians 1:20
If you are still wondering, can I reassure you – God is good! He loves you so and is with you right now. You can simply whisper, “I need you, Lord” and He is sure to be with you. Maybe today you need to spend some time on your knees. Ask Him to forgive you for forgetting or doubting His goodness. Cry out to Him and tell Him what you are struggling with and ask Him to carry you through this difficult time. Commit to spend time with Him daily and keep your eyes fixed on Him. He is your good, good Father and you can trust Him. He may not give you your way, but if you will let Him, He will use this difficult time to grow you, strengthen you, and draw you closer to Him.
The good life begins and gets even better as…
· our life is founded on the Good News of Jesus Christ (read more here)
· our relationship grows with our Good Father (read more here)
· we believe that God is good no matter what
Stay tuned to the blog as we come back to discuss how we discern what is good and learn to do that which is good. These 5 things keep us living out the good life during good times and challenging times. Living this out is what will inspire others to wonder what it is that we have and they are missing.
When we stand before our Father and give an account for our life – let Him see that we have been faithful to live the good life He offered us. May He say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
