Do Good and Live the Good Life

If you wish there was a check list for being good enough…

If you wish others would see you as a good person, mom, wife, daughter…

If you just long to do and be good…

If you need to know what is good…

I am glad you are here today. For weeks now, we have been talking about living the good life. We want that, don’t we? We want to be carefree and not have to worry about a thing. How do we go about finding our way there?

Regardless of what the world may say, the real Good Life begins with the Good News. There is nothing good about living our life apart from Jesus. He is where all the good stuff begins. He is what opens the door for us to have a relationship with our Good, Good Father. God is not asking us to merely practice religion, He is inviting us into a growing, deeply rooted, relationship with Him. And that is where we learn that God is good all the time and that all the time, God is good!

There is more….

Living the good life requires that we choose to do that which is good. But what happens when our definition of what is good is overshadowed by the world’s ideas? Or… if we are doing good things, but with the wrong motives – are we still doing good?

Doing good is not working through a checklist or simply going through the motions of what others say is good.

Doing good is not about performing and gaining the approval of those around us.

Doing good is not good when we are seeking reward.

So, how do we discern what is good? Romans 12:2 NLT tells us, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

We can stop striving to do good and simply surrender to Him. We can hand Him our need to control and choose to trust Him. We can give Him our desire to people please and decide to live a life that is pleasing to Him. We can give up our fears, doubts and worries and believe that He will use whatever comes our way to grow us and to change us. Let’s be carefree – casting all our cares on Him because He cares for us.

Today is a good day to start living the good life and doing the good that God is calling us to do.

I am praying for you today -

Pam
