A Moment I Never Want to Forget

I can’t get over it. I never want to get over it. This picture is me celebrating. Look closely and you will see the movement in my dress. That is because I am jumping up and down, pumping my fist, and sobbing, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”. I just couldn’t contain my joy over what God had just done.

Before I walked onto the stage, doubt and fear began to swell up inside of me. (Where do you think that was from?) I leaned over and asked Kim to pray over me. She did. As I got ready to get up, I leaned the other way and asked Gwen to pray.

On the stage, I was privileged to moderate a conversation with panelists who shared Real Talk. They talked about times when it was hard to praise the Lord, seasons they lost sight of their true identity, what they learned about Jesus in the struggle, and how they sought Him to be present in their lives. They were honest, vulnerable, and brave. They inspired me to be brave.

As I walked to the front of the stage to speak, I whispered, “yes” to the Lord. If this is what you want me to do, I will do it. I will lean on You and I will be brave. I continued with the real talk – but directly to the audience.

I said something like… some of you are enjoying yourself, but you aren’t sure you get it. You feel like you must be missing something. These people are awfully excited about Jesus and you really aren’t sure why. You see, Satan wants us to be confused. He doesn’t want us to know the truth - but the reality is…

·      None of us have always been a Christian. We aren’t born saved. It requires a decision.

·      We are not a Christian because everyone in our family is. It is a personal relationship.

·      Going to church every single Sunday does not mean we will go to Heaven.

·      We all – everyone in this room – deserve Hell - the cutest, the oldest, the best dressed, even the sweetest. Apart from Jesus, we are evil and can’t enter into the presence of our Holy God.

We must have a personal relationship with Jesus. Just us and Him. There must come a time when we realize that we can never be good enough or do enough to earn our way into Heaven. We must recognize that we are a sinner and we need a Savior. This is why God sent His Son to be the sacrificial lamb for our sin. Jesus carried our sin and our shame to the cross, giving His life, shedding His blood. When we make the decision to surrender our life to Him – His blood washes us clean. It covers our sin. So that when God looks at us, He doesn’t see our sin, He sees the righteousness of Christ. He provides the only way for us to be reconciled to God.

So, when we believe – not just in Him (even demons believe in Him), but on Him (like place our hope and trust on Him) – ask Him to forgive us and invite Him into our hearts, we experience salvation. This means that we are His and He is ours. We enter into a relationship with Him.

Next, I asked the ladies in the audience to be brave. I told them their heart might be racing or they might have a lump in their throat – but if they are ready to invite Jesus into their heart to stand up. You see, standing would be like sharing your testimony, “I was lost, but today, I am ready to be found”. I wanted to move on, but God wouldn’t let me. Again, I said I know in a room this size, someone is ready to be brave. It might have been the third time I asked, but I saw someone slowly rise in the back of the room. I let her know I saw her, then another stood, then another and two more.

As more stood, I tried to count and speak at the same time. (That is really hard, by the way.) But our best count was a dozen. A dozen brave souls standing and declaring their need for Jesus! I told them if they just couldn’t stand to raise their hand. If not, raise a finger. Then the whole room – all 720 something of us – prayed together as they invited Jesus into their hearts.

They each left their seat to go speak with our prayer team and give them their information. As they did – the rest of us celebrated! At least twelve lives snatched out of the pits of hell. Bam! I can’t get over it! I never want to get over it. Lord, help me continue to be brave!

There might have been some who came not knowing Jesus and left not knowing Him that day. However, the ground was tilled and the seeds were planted. We are believing for the harvest of their soul as others come alongside and water those seeds.

Who is God asking you to share Jesus with today? We are all called to go and tell. We might not have the opportunity to travel the world, but we can go into our child’s bedroom and tell them about Jesus. We can go into our co-workers’ cubicle and tell them what Jesus has done. We can go into our neighbors’ yard and tell them about the Lord.

Can I encourage you to be brave? You don’t have to say all the words perfectly, because our perfect God will show up and speak through you straight into a person’s heart. Don’t worry if they don’t make a decision right then. Pray with them and thank them for letting you share, letting them know you are available if they have any questions at any time.

To help you be brave – I am attaching scriptures and a prayer to lead someone through the Plan of Salvation. Print it and keep it in your car and in your Bible. Screen shot it and keep it on your phone. Be ready. When the opportunity arises and you feel that prompting in your spirit, whisper “yes” and be brave.
