Get a Handle on Your Identity

Today I listened to a 20 second clip of Priscilla Shirer that grabbed my attention. She said,

Do you understand that your sons and your daughters, your grandsons and your granddaughters, our great grandchildren that we may never actually lay eyes on… Do you realize that they are counting on you rising up and being who God has called you to be? Do you know that there are whole generational curses that can be broken if you get a handle on your identity.
— Priscilla Shirer

She didn’t speak nonchalantly; she asked the question passionately. It was like BAM! Who are we? Those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Savior - we are Daughters of the King. Throughout scripture we read who we are… redeemed, forgiven, chosen, masterpiece, loved, etc. Our identity is to be a reflection of Jesus. Are we?

We know we need to rise up and lead out, but we keep making excuses – don’t we? We are busy, we will start next week, we just need to get this project behind us. Blah, Blah, Blah. I heard Christine Caine ask one time, “What about the people waiting on you to do what you are supposed to do?”

Personally, I don’t want anyone to miss out on knowing Jesus because I didn’t tell them about Him. It hurts my heart to think others are just going through the motions, because I don’t talk about religion vs a relationship enough. And because God has called me to lead leaders, I certainly don’t want to miss an opportunity to inspire a Christian woman to rise up and lead out pointing everyone to Jesus who is in her realm of influence (whether they realize it or not).

But today as I listened to Priscilla mention my children, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren and those beyond that – I felt burdened. Am I doing enough? Am I living my faith out loud for all of my family, all of my friends, for everyone in my community, for everyone who comes in contact with me, for all on my social media accounts, for all who tune into my podcast, for all in the world to see?

Am I?

Are you?

No - it is not up to us to save the world, we are not Jesus. But it is up to us to live a life that points others to Him, to have a faith that attracts others to Him and to not spew religion because that repels others from Him. We have got to stop acting as if He is not calling us to more.

Today is a good day to make the decision to rise up. Jesus said it best, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19-20 He didn’t say - go through the motions, go if you are comfortable or go if it makes you happy. He said, “Go”. In John 20:21 Jesus said, “…As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

That means go into your child’s bedroom, go into your neighbors’ kitchen, go into your office, your team meeting, onto your social media accounts and reflect the light of Jesus. Our life should be a walking, breathing, testimony. There should be no question as to who we are and what we believe. We can only make a difference and leave an impact because we are not alone. Jesus is with us and He will do it through us. We just have to remember who we are.

Today, I am re-deciding to surrender my life as a living sacrifice and to intentionally, humbly, and obediently do what He is calling me to do. Will you?

I am praying for YOU -

Pam
