Saved and Stuck
Saved and Stuck
Does it matter if you are saved and stuck? Are you? Are you saved and stuck? I wonder what comes to your mind when you read those words. What does ‘saved and stuck’ mean to you? You know, I have been there. I have experienced this more than once and because of that – those words burden me. You see, I truly believe that many Christians are saved and stuck and they don’t even realize it. Oh… I am not judging here… it’s just that I have come to know that there is so much more to our relationship with Jesus and it is a travesty to be stuck.
Please – pause and give this some consideration. Because you see, God did not call you to be saved and stuck. He called you for more. Maybe you think that salvation is it, but it’s not. There is more for you beyond accepting Jesus as your Savior. If we are missing out on the more, we are not the only ones who are paying a price for our choices.
What does stuck look like?
Stuck looks like a Christian who loves Jesus, has accepted Him as their Savior and knows a lot about Him – but doesn’t have intimacy with Him and experience Him.
Stuck looks like a believer who continues to place more trust in their own way and opinions than in leaning into God’s way and understanding the truth of His word.
Stuck looks like a child of God who is more focused on how big their earthly problems are, instead of worshiping the greatness of our Lord.
Stuck looks like sheep who want to stay right here in the comfortable meadow, instead of following the Shepherd into what looks like the wilderness, but leads to the promised land.
Stuck is living and looking like the world, instead of becoming more like Christ.
Stuck is believing going to church and reading a devotional is enough - instead of studying God’s word, growing, and getting to know God more and more. It’s not just head knowledge - its a thriving relationship.
Do you see yourself in one of those explanations of stuck? It is so important to recognize where we are – to ask God to show us the condition of our hearts and reveal to us if we have become stuck and complacent. You see, if we are stuck – selfish, careless, insensitive, negative, weak – then others will suffer. God’s word tells us that we are to be light in this dark world, a city set on a hill, living out the great commandment and fulfilling the great commission. When we are stuck, what happens to the people that their only glimpse of Jesus comes from us; the only Bible they will read is watching us live our life and uphold it’s truths? What happens to them?
Does it matter if you are saved and stuck? You know what – it does. It matters greatly. Please take a few minutes and read 2 Corinthians 6. Read it from the translation you prefer but be sure to check out the Message as well. In this passage, Paul is speaking to the Corinthians and pleading for people to be reconciled to God. He tells them that if they live for themselves, they will have received the grace of God, but will miss out on the more that God has for them. He tells them that no matter their circumstances, they can keep a pure heart, experience deep joy and have it all in Christ Jesus. In the Message, it uses the words smallness vs wide open spacious lives. When we are stuck, our world becomes small. But when we are unstuck, we step into a wide-open, spacious life in Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:20-21, Paul tells us that we are to be ambassadors.
“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
Ambassadors are more than messengers – don’t you agree? We are representatives of the One who sent us. We have a story to tell, a message to share. Here we are in a world that is in rebellion against God. Yet our message is one of peace and reconciliation. Our mission is to implore people to be reconciled to God, to know Jesus and to live for Him.
It matters if you are stuck. It is time to become unstuck.
