Hope In the Midst of the Coronavirus
Hope in the Midst of the Coronavirus
What is happening? Who would have ever imagined we would be here? It’s a struggle. It really is. Some are miserable due to the lack of interaction with their peers, while others experience anxiety over the many unanswered questions. Some are sick, while others have loved ones who have been infected with the Coronavirus. Some are overwhelmed by so much family time, while others are lonelier than they have ever been. Some are concerned about their job, their income, the steady stream of bills and - believe it or not – the lack of toilet paper. You know, I never in all of my life thought toilet paper might be an issue. Yet, here we sit with uncertainty, fears and in isolation from one another.
I don’t know what you are dealing with right now. I don’t know if your struggle is heavy or light. I don’t know if you are scared or if you feel secure. But…today I was thinking about hope. We have hope. In the midst of uncertainty, when we are weighed down in fear and even when we feel all alone – we have hope. Right now, in this difficult time, we can be hopeful – filled up with hope because Jesus is our hope! We just need to quieten the crazy thoughts, the worries, the overwhelming fears. We need to get quiet and be filled with Him.
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18
Jesus came, died and rose again to offer us the gift of eternal life. As we are heirs to His suffering, we will share the eternal weight of His glory later. And nothing, absolutely nothing compares to that. Jesus, You are the Name Above All Names, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords (1), the Light of the World (2), the Rock of Salvation (3), and the Anchor of our Soul (4). You are our Hope!
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5
The reason the believer – those who have believed on Jesus for salvation – can be confident is because God poured out His love for us. The moment we trusted in Jesus, we received the Holy Spirit, who encourages us in our blessed hope. He helps us because He loves us too much to leave us as we are. So today, if you are struggling – you can exchange that struggle for Hope. Give Him your struggles and accept the peace, the promises and His presence in exchange. Make Jesus your focus today. Read your Bible, pray, and sing praise songs all throughout your day. (If you are not sure you have this hope, please click here and read the scriptures explaining the Plan of Salvation. For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Titus2:11-14
Should this blessed hope we have effect who we are and how we behave – even during times like these? Yes, it should. No judgement here, but I think we all have to agree God wants us to acknowledge who He is and that we trust Him. Our faith in Him will begin to dispel our fear. He wants us to deny our worldly habits and instead choose His ways. Maybe during this time, we can help to reflect the Light of the World to our family, our neighbors (from a distance) and even on our social media accounts. This is a great time to spend time in His word, have a family devotion and just sit with the television off and find some quiet time with Jesus. We talk to Him a lot, but do we ever just sit and ask what He has to say to us?
What should we do?
Rejoicing in Hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. Romans 12:12
We are to rejoice in our Hope, rejoice and praise Jesus and His Holy Name. We are to be patient in this time of tribulation, resting and trusting in Him. And we should continue steadfastly in prayer – praying for the world, our nation, our community, our loved ones; asking God to use this time to draw us closer to our Savior and praying He will use us and our actions during this time to bring honor and glory to Him. And all God’s people said, Amen.
